A California man has been detained for almost three months without charges in the United Arab Emirates. Lawyers for Naji Hamdan, a US citizen originally from Lebanon, says he's being held the behest of the US government. Reporter Rob Schmitz of KQED has the story.

Private security company Blackwater is offering to help fight pirates in the Indian Ocean. The company known for its contract work for the Pentagon in Iraq is now offering its sevices to shipping companies. Congo's gorillas at risk (5:15)

Virunga National Park in Congo is home to more than a third of the world's last mountain gorillas - and the ongoing violence in eastern Congo is putting the wellbeing of those remaining few at risk. Anchor Lisa Mullins finds out more about Virunga's mountain gorillas from author Craig Hatkoff. He co-wrote a children's book called "Looking for Miza: The True Story of the Mountain Gorilla Family Who Rescued One of their Own".

In Zimbabwe, the water taps are dry. The country's water system is old and broken. Many Zimbabweans are forced to dig their own wells and use water that's not clean. That's exposing people to disease. We have this report from Harare.

For today's Global Hit, The World's Marco Werman introduces us to Eugene Rodriguez and his band, Los Cenzontles. The Bay Area group is about a lot more than fusing Mexican and American music. In fact it's a front band for a community arts center created to help Mexican-American immigrant kids stay out of trouble.
